THREE graffiti scrawlers caught on camera defacing the skate park in Studley are to do community work to make amends for their actions.
The youths were filmed on the parish council’s beefed up CCTV system installed after play equipment in the village recreation ground was repeatedly vandalised.
The incident happened in the early evening September 17 when one youth, wearing a grey hoodie, was seen crossing the park with a spray can in his hand. He is later joined by other youths.
The film was released to the Redditch Standard and local social media outlets and the culprits were quickly identified, parish council chairman Paul Beaman making it plain that he would prefer a community resolution to the incident rather than the youths getting a police record.
And he was able to report at Tuesday’s parish council meeting that a suitable resolution had been achieved.
“The three perpetrators have been identified and working with the police we have agreed they will do work in the community,” he said.
“They will be doing a litter pick on the recreation ground during half term and if there isn’t enough litter they will also do the basketball court.”
In addition the youths – or their parents – will pay a contribution towards repainting the popular skate park, estimated at £60 each.
A representative of the council will also explain to the youths how the equipment they had vandalised, and the kit to keep an eye on it, all had to be paid for by the council tax of Studley residents, including their parents’.
