Studley's harvest help for children’s hospital

IT WAS all smiles at The Needlemakers Pub in Studley on Sunday at their annual harvest festival in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

With the bar groaning with masses of fruit and veg, jams, tarts and cakes, all donated by the regulars, bidding was brisk – and generous – once the auction began.

A potted chrysanthemum went for £30, boxes of veg, pies and more were all snapped up and the star attraction – a giant onion grown in the garden of the late Nobby Clarke, who died in May – went under auctioneer Des Crow’s hammer for a tenner.

Landlady Debbie Styler said: “We hold the auction every year, raising money for the Children’s Hospital and everyone brings their produce in to be sold.

“All the money raised, which will be about £400, will be added to the £2,100 we raised from the summer fete for the hospital.”
