A woman had returned to her car after shopping at the supermarket and had put her handbag on the passenger seat.

While distracted someone opened the door and pinched her cash card, later using it three times to remove what police described as ‘a substantial amount of cash’.

The incident happened at about 12 midday on Saturday, December 12 but was only reported to police on Wednesday, December 16.

Officers believe the thieves had noted her Pin number as she shopped in the supermarket.

The latest incident comes just weeks after a woman had her card stolen after being distracted by someone in the car park as she loaded her groceries into her car.

In that incident one of the thieves told the shopper there was something hanging down from her car. When she went to take a look they stole her cash card, later withdrawing £2,000 with it.

Police are appealing for shoppers to keep their Pin number secret, shield the machine when they tap the number in and be aware of any posssible distractions.

They are also appealing for witnesses to this latest incident by calling them on 101.
