REDDITCH has finally been given the green light to host long awaited e-scooter trials.
While the Borough Council’s bid to become a trial area has been approved, it’s unclear at this stage which company won the contract, although American micromobility company Bird appears to be the front-runner.
The council is expected to reveal more details tomorrow.
Another company bidding for the contract was Bolt, a firm with extensive involvement in the European e-scooter market.
Meanwhile Swedish company Voi has been appointed to trial the use of e-scooters in the West Midlands for a year, with Birmingham and Coventry city centres the first locations.
Deputy Leader of Redditch Borough Council, Coun Mike Rouse, said: “Good news! You’ll soon be able to hire an e-scooter in Redditch.
“We’re now at the forefront of ActiveTravel, delivering innovation for our town and how we move.”
For now, the trial zone will based in the town centre.
