LOCAL carers were under starters orders when Tardebigge-based micro brewery Alestones held a fund-raising race day for a highly deserving charity.
It was all in aid of Redditch-based Carers Careline, a big hearted organisation that offers practical and emotional support for those caring for dearly loved family members, friends or neighbours.
Figures for 2021 estimate that across the country there are some five million people acting as unpaid carers.
Carers Careline alone has hundreds of carers on its books and relies on local generosity and grants to pay for its services.
“We’re so grateful to Adrian Stones and all at Alestones for their support,” said the charity’s chief officer Erica de Meo.
“It all came about by chance but the result has been fantastic.
“Our carers enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of fun together and we also managed to raise much needed funds for our work.”
The charity has forged links with local care home Haywood Lodge and some of its residents joined in the fun to further add to the pot.
“Alestones is at The Courtyard in Tardebigge and Adrian managed to get some of the businesses there to sponsor the races,” said Erica.
“Not only that but he also very kindly produced a bottle of champagne for the raffle.”
Carers Careline is based in the Ecumenical Centre in Evesham Walk, Redditch.
Adrian added: “Carers Careline is such a good local cause.
“We had all the kit for the race so it was just a question of putting the two together.
“My thanks go to the support we got from Fatboys Logburners, Hunters Tattoo Parlour, the Courtyard Cafe and VIP for all their help.”
It offers emotional support, practical help with things like form filling, a bereavement service and has links for respite holidays.
