A SIZE 16 model has proven naysayers wrong by starring in several beauty pageants since being told that she would ‘never make it’.
Samantha Stoneman, aged 39, decided to start modelling two years ago after her ex-husband bought her a boudoir photo-shoot for Christmas.
She said: “I really enjoyed it and the photos were amazing.
“After my shoot I decided to apply to be a plus-size model.
“I only did it for a joke because I didn’t believe anyone would ever get back to me.”
But within hours Sam, from Matchborough, was contacted by a London modelling agency who asked to take her photo.
After agreeing she had her first professional photos taken on Oxford Street, launching her modelling career.
“After that I had a few setbacks because I didn’t know enough about the industry.
“I spent a lot of money on a portfolio which I didn’t need to spend.
“That provided a steep learning curve about an industry I knew nothing about.
“Initially I was turned down by a lot of big modelling agencies telling me I didn’t have the right look, I was too big and my face wasn’t right.
“I heard every excuse possible but this made me even more determined.”
After facing adversity head on, Samantha went on to win the ‘Mrs Unique UK’ pageant, did various photo-shoots for Top Model UK and was ‘Top Model Winner’ at Midlands Fashion Week.
Not only that but she has also appeared in several youtube music videos.
She has now been signed up by a modelling agency to provide her with even more opportunities.
“My whole aim is to promote curves and show that although I’m a 16, you can still be happy and feel amazing in your own skin.
“I’ve got so much confidence now it’s unbelievable.”
