ONE of the finest pieces ever written by one of the greats of the musical world is to be performed in Redditch.
Redditch Choral Society will be staging Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle at their next concert at 7.30pm Saturday, December 8.
Rehearsals for this lively and beautiful piece are going very well and the choir are delighted to perform something a little different from the usual this festive season.
Rossini of course is best known for the operas William Tell and The Barber of Seville yet his Petite Messe Solennelle contains some of the most beautiful pieces of music he ever wrote.
The concert is at Trinity High School, Redditch under music director Emily Tyrrell.
Two pianos are needed for this piece hence the change from their usual venue, St Stephen’s Church.
The choir will be joined by wonderful professional soloists Katie Leaver (soprano), Laura Woods (alto), Brett Elesmore (tenor) and Peter Wilde-Willcock (bass) – all with strong connections to the choir.
Tickets for the concert cost £12 / £10 including interval refreshments. Accompanied children free.
For tickets call 07794 362956 or visit the Music Shop, at the back of the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
Emily Tyrrell is a young professional musician who has filled the position of director of music left by the choir’s founder Alma Bright-Clarke who died over a year ago.
Emily has been associated with the choir since she was a child and was greatly supported and influenced by Alma as she progressed from student to professional musician.
Emily is enjoying choosing and directing new pieces and the choir are enjoying her skill and enthusiasm.
The choir is made up of singers of all ages – some have been singing with RCS for many years while new recruits have also swelled the ranks.
A friendly choir, no audition is required and rehearsals are held on Wednesdays 7.45pm to 9.30pm in Crabbs Cross Methodist Church and will resume after Christmas on January 9 when we will be preparing for our June concert.
