Superb school graffiti art project becomes a symbol of our times

WHEN does graffiti become art?

In the Summer term of 2021, the pupils at Birchfield Middle School took part in a ‘Graffiti Art Competition’ to celebrate how well the school had coped with the challenges of Covid-19 over the last two academic years.

The children produced posters and artwork symbolising this struggle and how ‘belief in our community’ and ‘belief in each other’ kept everyone going and striving to progress throughout the difficult times.

A combined piece of work was produced from all the winning entries and that is still there today.

The winners of the graffiti competition were Amal Shah, Neo Young and Amelia Sealy-Stanton, designer.

The Arts Awards pupils who helped scale up and draw out the artwork were Marie Parkes, Desiree-Lea Broadbelt, Oliver Celec, Alex Celec, Leo Hendry, Aayan Adil, Mabroor Shah and Chloe West.
