Support for unpaid carers in Redditch to continue

Redditch Editorial 5th Mar, 2015 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

A VITAL telephone support service for the borough’s army of unpaid carers will continue after receiving extended support from Redditch Borough Council.

Carers Careline, based in the Ecumenical Centre, has received £3,905 from the council’s Voluntary and Community Sector Grant Programme which will allow volunteers to continue to stay in regular contact with carers when they need help.

The service is just one of those offered by the charity which also provides support groups, training on specific illnesses/conditions, bereavement support and counselling.

The grant is crucial to the organisation which is entirely self-funding and also receives money from The Big Lottery Fund and other trusts as well as the council.

It is estimated unpaid carers in Redditch are saving the county’s social care sector an estimated £164million a year with an estimated 8,889 people across the borough now caring for a loved one.

Carers Careline can be contacted on 01527 66177, by emailing [email protected] or drop in sessions are available Monday to Thursday from 10am to midday at the Ecumenical Centre.
