'Supporting the next generation is one of my greatest privileges' - Chris Bloore's Westminster Diary

Redditch Editorial 14th Dec, 2024   0

THE past six months have been both busy and rewarding as I’ve worked to address the issues that matter most to our community – from honouring our veterans to protecting vital services.

Remembrance was a powerful time of reflection.

I was privileged to plant a Remembrance cross in the Speaker’s Garden at Westminster and join the Redditch Remembrance Parade and Astwood Bank Armistice Day event.

Our community’s unwavering support for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal is a testament to our shared commitment to veterans and their families.

Meanwhile, the campaign to save Redditch Post Office continues to gain momentum.

This vital service is a lifeline for many residents, particularly the most vulnerable. Despite the refusal of Post Office officials to meet with me or campaigners, I remain determined.

With the invaluable support of the Redditch Standard, we’ll keep fighting to protect this essential service. Please sign and share our petition to ensure our voices are heard.

In Parliament, I welcomed the Government’s £9.3million investment in Worcestershire’s bus services which will significantly benefit rural communities by improving access to jobs, healthcare, and social connections.

Reliable public transport is essential for tackling isolation and improving quality of life across Redditch.

I’ve also raised critical issues like NHS dental care, social care reform, and stroke rehabilitation.

Tackling violence against women and girls (VAWG) remains a priority.

I recently highlighted the life-saving work of the Sandycroft Centre, which supports women facing abuse, and called on Ministers to address the harmful influence of online content on young people’s understanding of relationships.

Labour’s commitment to halving VAWG within a decade is vital and I’ll continue to advocate for stronger protections for survivors in our community.

This month, I voted for the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill at its Second Reading. This was a difficult decision informed by heartfelt conversations with many of you.

While supporting dignity of choice for terminally ill individuals, I continue to advocate for robust safeguards and improved palliative care.

Finally, I’ve been inspired by visiting local schools. At Inkberrow Primary, I learned about their aspiration curriculum and fundraising campaign for a minibus, while at Wychbold First and Nursery, I met with their school council to discuss democracy.

Supporting the next generation is one of my greatest privileges.

Please email me at [email protected] if I can help or you’d like to raise an issue.

Chris Bloore,

MP for Redditch and the Villages
