Supreme Bhuna Roast clinches the Tiffin Cup for Redditch's Redolence

A REDDITCH restaurant is the toast of the House of Commons after clinching the coveted ‘Tiffin Cup’.

Redolence Spice Indian Restaurant in Unicorn Hill wowed the judges, which included top chef Ainsley Harriott, with their ‘Supreme Bhuna Roast’ a traditional dish made contemporary with a few modern twists in the competition in the Houses of Parliament.

“One of the Michelin starred chefs judging just sniffed and said ‘this is the one’,” said Samiul Hussain, son of owner and chef ‘Alan’ Hussain.

“We are officially the proud holders of the Tiffin Cup 2018 and the number one Indian restaurant in the UK!

“My dad has worked in the industry for a long time, and was head chef at Lasan in Birmingham before deciding to open his own restaurant in Redditch.

“On the day in Parliament I was shaking hands with so many honourable ladies and gentlemen and I have absolutely no idea who they were but they were definitely impressed with the food.”

The Tiffin Cup is an annual competition run by the Tiffin Club in the Houses of Parliament. Restaurants have to be nominated by their local MP and an entry of 60 is whittled down to just 12 who travel to London to cook for the distinguished guests.

Redolence Spice was put forward by Redditch MP Rachel Maclean, who herself was introduced to it by regular customer and Borough Councillor Matt Dormer.

“When Rachel first came to Redditch she said we had to get party members together and I was asked to find somewhere,” said Coun Dormer.

“For me, there was only one option I’m in there every week and the food is excellent. Luckily for me Rachel agreed.

“Winning the Tiffin Cup is a massive achievement and it’s great for Redditch too.”

Samiul added: “We can’t thank Matt enough – he’s been a huge supporter of us. We are completely overwhelmed by this achievement and will continue to provide our skills at the highest class and deliciousness possible!”
