CAT-LOVERS from all over the world came to see an array of exotic and beautiful cats in Birmingham last week at the 40th annual Supreme Championship Cat Show.
The science fiction themed event on Saturday (October 22) saw the finest moggies from all over the country brought to the NEC for The Supreme Show of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy (GCCF), and the ‘Crufts of the feline world’ did not disappoint.
Showcased in the arena for all to see were luxurious and large Maine Coons, delicate and beautiful Bengals, regal British Shorthairs, striking Oriental kittens and purring long-haired Persians, most with highly decorative pens.
Both pedigree and non-pedigree cats were eligible to win awards in each breed section as judged by the meticulous GCCF, and there was also a best decorated pen competition within the 2016 theme of Science Fiction’.
From Clangers to Star Wars, Star Trek and Dr Who, pet owners went all out with the Sci-fi theme and the fabulous felines seemed to enjoy the fuss.
To ensure ultimate comfort at all times, owners had supplied everything from silk cushions, personalised blankets, miniature cat-sized bespoke armchairs and dishes of whole fresh prawns to keep their kitties happy for the duration of the show.
Ex-Dr Who actor and cat-lover, Colin Baker, and other guest speakers gave talks throughout the day and professional cat breeders and experts were on hand to answer questions and discuss the details, habits and behaviors of different breeds of cat.
Sponsors Royal Canin and Agria also gave talks throughout the event and charity drives and stalls selling everything from designer cat beds and organic cat food to delicate cat-themed jewelry ensured that visitors could really indulge both their pets and their passion for cats.
