Surplus furniture is the perfect windfall for Redditch Museum

SOME surplus NHS office furniture has turned into a windfall for the Redditch Local History Museum.

The museum, in Market Place in Church Green, had been appealing for help ready for a grand opening later this year.

Trustee Pete Harris said: “Sometimes marvelous things come from out of the blue.

“So it was when a call was received from a local NHS department which had a building full of office equipment which was surplus to requirements…. Were we interested?”

The result was an assorted free gift of most of what was required to furnish the museum from top to bottom.

There were old desks, tables, reception furniture, pedestal units, cupboards, chairs and display items.

“Starting a museum from scratch requires a huge amount of lateral thinking, stress and hard work,” said Pete.

“As trustees we cannot go to Ikea and just pick up a museum construction box of what we need complete with assembly instructions. “Couple this with having to rely entirely on donations and sponsorship, this generous offer could not have come at a more opportune time.”
