REDDITCH Abbey Stadium’s alternative swimming pool will have extended opening hours as the facility’s main pool gears up to being reopened.
The main pool on the Birmingham Road is expected to reopen to the public on Monday (December 19), after being closed since both it and its smaller pool had to be completely drained, cleaned, and refilled when glass from a poolside door entered the main pool water last week.
Pool staff have since been able to fully reopen the smaller pool, and Friday’s public swimming session there has been extended to 7pm while the main pool continues to be made ready. Swimmers have also been able to use the borough council’s other pool at Kingsley Sports Centre.
John Godwin, Redditch Borough Council’s Head of Leisure and Cultural Services, said: “The main pool is now being heated and the water treated, so once it’s comfortable for general swimming we’ll re-open it to the public.
“The wait has been frustrating but the main pool alone holds nearly half a million litres. In the meantime we’re sorry for the disruption and we’re opening everything we can for as long as we are able to.”
