Tai Chi, Strength and Balance classes to start in Redditch

Redditch Editorial 1st Jan, 2019 Updated: 2nd Jan, 2019   0

THREE brand new classes and a Couch to 5k course will all be starting in Redditch in January, organised by the Borough Council.

Starting from the middle of January there will be Thai Chi, Strength and Balance and Escape Pain classes as well as a new Couch to 5k course, all at venues across the borough.

Residents hoping to start the year off with some relaxation can try out the ancient Chinese tradition of Thai Chi with classes at The Space in Winyates Centre from January 9.

Starting on January 14 at the Windmill Community Centre, will be the next round of Escape Pain sessions; a rehabilitation programme for people with joint and muscular pain that integrates educational self-management and coping strategies with an exercise regimen.

Escape Pain sessions can help participants reduce pain, improve physical function and the psychosocial consequences of pain and reduce healthcare and utilisation costs.

In the same week from 12noon on January 15 new Strength and Balance classes, run by a Level 4 Qualified Instructor will be starting at St Luke’s Church Hall, Evesham Road, Headless Cross.

For any late resolution makers, the fitness journey can begin at the end of January with the latest C25k course.

Sessions will run on Sundays 9.30am at the Abbey Stadium Track, Mondays at 10am at Morton Stanley Park (meet by top car park), Mondays 7pm at Arrow Valley Lake – Stitch Meadow (main car park), Wednesdays 7.30pm at Abbey Stadium Track, Thursdays 9.30am at the Abbey Stadium Track and Thursdays 6.30pm at Arrow Valley Lake.

All sessions cost £1.00 per person and are designed for absolute beginners.

To take part or for general advice on what would be suitable exercise for you, call Hayley Gwilliam on 01527 881404.

All of the classes are £3.30 except Couch to 5k which is £1.

Further details about all of the community and Couch to 5k sessions are available on the council website.
