Teatime treat to mark anniversary in Callow Hill

Redditch Editorial 13th Apr, 2024   0

A DELICIOUS afternoon tea was enjoyed in Callow Hill last week, to mark a year since the village hall was upgraded.

A grant from the National Lottery Community Fund to the Callow Hill Coffee Club, run by a group of volunteers, ensured sufficient money was made available to cover the cost of kitchen units, allowing a kitchen to be installed in the hall for the first time.

The grant also covered all the fittings for a disabled-friendly cloakroom, as well as tables, chairs, and essential equipment for a community hall.

Volunteers from the group gave their own time and skills to complete various tasks on the project and as a result the Village Hall, affectionately known to residents as ‘The Gazebo’, has been transformed into a bright and practical space for the use of all Callow Hill village residents.

Once the refurbishment was finished a year ago, Callow Hill Coffee Club volunteers began holding regular coffee mornings, and they have now become established social events, bringing local people together.

In addition, charity events held over the past year have raised £772 for charities including Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Redditch Foodbank.

Speaking on behalf of the Coffee Club, Pat Mortimer said: ‘We were absolutely delighted when we learnt in early 2023 that our application to the National Lottery Community Fund was successful.

“We celebrate the difference this grant has made in our community.

“So, the Afternoon Tea – a first for the Coffee Club – was a real treat enjoyed and appreciated by the many who attended.

“Our thanks go to the Mayor who took time from his busy schedule to mark this very special occasion.”
