A TEENAGE boy was arrested in Redditch after a joint operation with West Midlands Police, British Transport Police and Safer Travel at Redditch railway station.
When officers arrived at the station, a teenage boy was seen running from one of the trains leaving a rucksack behind.
He was quickly caught by officers and having retrieved the rucksack, a large hunting knife was found.
The boy, aged 14, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife/bladed article and has since been bailed.
Inspector Rich Field said: “Although we focus on knife crime during Operation Sceptre, tackling knife crime is part of everyday policing. Our officers regularly carry out intelligence-led patrols to deter offending and highlight those who may commit a violent crime.
“We have worked with our partners and have arranged a number of cross-border operations with British Transport Police, West Midlands Police and Safer Travel during this week.
“We are lucky that knife related crime still remains low compared to other areas of the country, but it is right that we remain committed in reducing this and bringing people to justice who decide to carry a knife.
“My simple message is to drop the knife and tell us those people who are carrying a knife so we can stop them.”
