Ten garages in one street in Alvechurch burgled in one night

Redditch Editorial 11th Jan, 2017 Updated: 11th Jan, 2017   0

RESIDENTS have been warned to be on their guard after ten the same road have been broken into in Alvechurch.

The incidents all happened between Monday evening (January 9) and the early hours of Tuesday (January 10).

Various items of garden and mechanical equipment were stolen during the raids, along with a small wooden trailer that police believe was used to transport the stolen items.

The break-ins happened in George Road and the trailer was recovered in Weatheroak Hill, Alvechurch.

The other items are still to be recovered.

Officers from Alvechurch and Wythall Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) have conducted CCTV enquiries of Weatheroak Hill and George Road.

And, following the incidents, the police have issued a number of security tips for residents.

High values such as bikes and lawn mowers should be shackled together, ideally to a metal post or a part of the building.

People should consider having lockable steel boxes fitted to the floor to store tools in.

Any garage windows should be obscured to prevent thieves seeing what is inside.

Property should be marked and signs should let would-be burglars know that this has been done.

Residents should also, where possible, join a neighbourhood watch scheme.

Witnesses or anyone with any information on the thefts should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
