Tesco Lodge Park gives timely boost to help Redditch Nightstop

STAFF from Redditch Nightstop have been out and about helping to prevent young people becoming homeless in the coronavirus lockdown.

Last week Richard Watson, the store manager at Tesco Lodge Park and customer assistant Julie Brannan delivered food parcels for the charity and contributed to the cost.

These, together with some other items earlier donated by TK Maxx in the Kingfisher were then delivered by Nightstop’s Sharon Holtom and Sarah Brady to their clients’ front doors.

“We have adapted our usual face-to-face work to ensure we are continuing to support young people on a regular basis,” said Sharon.

“This includes regular contact and ensuring young people are still able to access services needed.

“We have been providing food parcels, toiletries for those in need and funding to help young people to get to work.

“We have also provided essential cooking equipment to several recently housed young people who would otherwise not have the facility to cook a hot meal.”

She added that with some finding the lockdown restrictions difficult mental health support had been provided via Nightstop’s partnership with Headgym.

“We are still supporting young people and taking referrals for floating support,” added Sharon..

“As soon as we can, we will resume working practices in person which we will do in line with government guidelines.”

She also highlighted the efforts of Debbie Joynes, organiser of the GlastonBeoley Music Festival.

Nightstop was one of the festival’s chosen charities but Debbie has continued to organise fundraising quiz nights on its website to to continue raising money for the chosen charities.

“They raised £5,000 for us last year which helped with things like identification, travel, mental health sessions, clothing and household goods,” said Sharon.
