Thank you to our special town

A CHRISTMAS message from Pat Witherspoon, Mayor of Redditch

DEAR friends in Redditch.

I don’t normally look back, but at this very special time of the year I like many of you remember those who are no longer here.

This year we have remembered those of all nations who a century ago fought in a war to end all wars. We have also celebrated 50 years of Redditch as a New Town. We have used Church Green and the Bandstand as a focal point in our remembrance, I have used the lovely photograph taken by Ian Dipple for my Christmas cards this year. I, and John my husband are hopefully meeting most of you who live here in this wonderful town.

I would like to particularly mention your generosity as individuals and organisations supporting so many good causes and charities which without your help couldn’t survive. Thank you to the thousands of volunteers who enable our societies, schools, hospitals, charity shops and organisations to work.

The campaigners to Save the Alex, the community and neighbours who support at times of trouble, you are all champions of Redditch.

Special thanks for your support for my two charities, Mental Health Action Group and Friends of Redditch (Dementia) group.

Redditch continues to grow and our rich cultural diversity is the envy of other Worcestershire Civic heads when they visit here.

I hope you will be able to spare a thought for your neighbour who may be lonely, old or young, sad and maybe hungry. Can we share our good fortune and spread a little happiness. This coming year will bring challenges to all of us, don’t be afraid to question the politicians but remember they are not Father Christmas.

I look forward to another exciting Redditch ‘musical’ year by the Bandstand and in the Parks. The ‘bike race’ is for the fourth year putting us on the map.

We will I am sure ‘remember them’ but we can all celebrate living here in this lovely old town of Redditch and look forward together to a better future for our children.

Happy Christmas to you all and a Healthy Peaceful 2015.
