LOCAL students were busy working in the outdoors last week as part of volunteering through the National Citizen Service, organised locally by the YMCA.
On the day of their GCSE results, 15 students volunteered to give Headless Cross Community Orchard a ‘makeover’, raking hay and pruning trees.
The work day forms part of a new initiative called BROS (Bromsgrove & Redditch Open Spaces), to get more people volunteering in the outdoors.
Funded by Redditch Borough Council, BROS has teamed-up with local organisations like Headless Cross Community Orchard, Batchley Support Group and Transition Redditch, to offer opportunities for local people to discover how they can get involved in conservation and food-growing projects.
For more call Gary at Bromsgrove and Redditch Network (BARN) on 01527 60282.
Transition Redditch is holding an orchard working party on Sunday, September 10 from 12noon at the back of the Abbey Stadium.
