A TEAM of Redditch colleagues have pulled together to tackle three mountains in less than 30 hours, all in the name of charity.
Kerry Walker, who works for Quattro Pensions in Redditch, decided to take on the grueling Three Peaks Challenge and climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon alongside her husband and nine other colleagues.
On June 23, the group took on the challenge to support four different causes – Parkinson’s UK, Motor Neurone Disease, Breast Cancer Now and the Macular Society – and spurred on by the women they know affected by the diseases, completed it in just 28 hours.
Kerry, who was inspired by the bravery of both her mother and mother-in-law said: “My mum has suffered with Parkinson’s for many years now and has deteriorated a lot over the last couple of years. My husband’s mum has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and can no longer talk, eat or drink or walk. It has been really hard seeing what they both go through.”
The team of workmates were also working to raise money to show support for their a colleague who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of the year.
“Mandy has been bravely enduring chemotherapy since and is still awaiting surgery and radiotherapy,” said Kerry.
“She still managed to get all the way to Snowdon, our final mountain, to cheer us on though.
“All three of these wonderful ladies have been so brave and we love them to bits.”
With the backing of both Bondeye Optical in Warwick and Quattro Pensions in Redditch, the team have managed to raise £8451.30 to be divided equally between the chosen charities.
