The Vaynor School parents rally round to help Foodbank

BIG HEARTED parents at The Vaynor First School dug deep for Redditch Foodbank to donate a carload and trailer groaning full of food and household essentials for struggling local families.

The Vaynor Parent Teachers Association leapt into action after hearing from the school nurse that foodbanks were in desperate need of supplies due to the coronavirus threat.

They approached headteacher Sallyanne Dunstan who gave the go-ahead and the result, said Nikki Wnuk from the PTA, was astounding.

“I was absolutely gobsmacked by the generosity of The Vaynor parents,” she said.

“The collection was on Friday and we were down to about half the our normal number of children and parents still came and donated.

“I was really touched by their actions, especially considering there have been other people panic buying in the shops.

“They did a amazing job from supplying pet food, nappies, toiletries to tinned goods and pasta.”

Some parents who were short of food supplies themselves offered to make a cash donation instead.

For me it just showed amazing community spirit and generosity during these uncertain times,” added Nikki.

Such has been the success of the event that the PTA is hoping to hold a similar collection for Redditch Foodbank in the future.
