A GENERAL Election on December 12? The Green Party is ready after confirming local mum Claire Davies as their candidate to fight the Redditch seat.
And while Brexit is dominating much of the news agenda she says a bigger story, saving the environment and climate change, could make all the present obsession irrelevant if something isn’t done soon.
“This is going to be the most unpredictable election in decades, and talking about Brexit is stopping everything else,” she said.
“We have got to have a Green voice.
“The world is changing and the UK and politics has to keep up.
“We have this existential crisis hanging over everybody but we can still do something about it and what the Green Party is doing is putting the environment at the absolute centre of everything, whether its housing, transport, energy or international relations.”
If elected she wants to see services returned to the Alexandra Hospital and the NHS remain in the public domain.
She also wants to see HS2 cancelled and the money put into funding a decent public transport service.
“We need a reliable public transport system in Redditch and in the wider area, one that not only travels between Redditch and Birmingham but to other places across our region,” she said.
Claire grew up in Studley and has lived in Redditch for 24 years. A qualified social worker she actively supports the town’s voluntary sector and is an award-winning campaigner.
“I’m thrilled to be chosen to give Redditch people the chance to vote Green,” she said.
“I’m passionate about our town, its residents and the issues we all face.
“The Green Party offers a true alternative for a fair and just society, starting with proper funding for the public services that people need.”
