Thieves steal pet shop charity box for Redditch's Hopper Haven

A WOMAN and the man with her have stolen a charity box off the counter of a pet shop in Alcester.

The heartless thieves struck as the man, chatting about dog leads, distracted That Pet Place manager Louise Bennett.

They then fled the high street business, taking two training leads with them, and it was only when a member of the public came in with the now empty charity box – for Redditch-based rabbit charity Hopper Haven – that Louise realised what had happened.

“Checking back on CCTV I could see that the woman, who might have been pregnant, had her eyes darting everywhere and looked really suspicious,” said Louise.

“And then you can see her just sweep the charity box off the counter.

“It’s such a low thing to do, stealing a charity box.”

The thieves struck between 2pm and 2.30pm on Thursday, November 23. Both are described as in their mid-30s.

Hopper Haven is a big hearted Redditch charity run entirely by volunteers and based on Evesham Road, Crabbs Cross.

It currently cares for 86 rabbits and 27 guinea pigs and relies on charitable donations and sponsorship.

The description of its residents is a joy to read.
