“E-SCOOTERS have been officially launched in Redditch this week, and here’s hoping they pass off safely.
I’ve seen them in action in Belgium, in Antwerp, and they look great.
But big cities on the continent have wide avenues, dedicated bike lanes, trams, buses, broad pavements and drivers alert to all these forms of transport.
Towns like Redditch haven’t got that, they’ve got painted bumpy bike lanes on roads filled with parked cars.
E-scooters will crash, people will get hurt.
I hope the trials are a success, but to succeed, people will need to treat the machines, themselves and other people with respect.“
