Thousands sample food at Alcester

THOUSANDS of visitors descended on Alcester as part of its Autumn food festival.

About 18,000 people pounded the pavements of the High Street and its surrounding roads on Saturday (October 18).

More than 100 stalls lined the streets selling everything from gourmet coffee to freshly baked bread, while healthy cooking lessons were also on offer in the Town Hall.

Coffee@26 on the High Street also played host to the Great Cake Off, sponsored by the Redditch and Alcester Standard, which saw 12 bakers cooking up their best winter fruit cake for a panel of judges.

The winner was Margaret Moore, a member of Great Alne and Kinwarton WI, with her ginger and apple cake. In second place was ten-year-old Charlie Gwillym, and third place went to Mandy Jones.
