Thumbs up for archive service as it makes the grade - again

THE Worcestershire Archive & Archaeology Service has been professionally recognised for its high standards and continued development.

Based at The Hive in Worcester, the service was recently inspected by The National Archives and was re-awarded its accredited status.

Accredited Archive Status was introduced by The National Archives in 2013 to ensure continued high standards and a service was being developed.

In 2014, Worcestershire was one of the first six archive services in the country to apply to join the scheme. Accreditation needs to be reapplied for every three years.

The service was also named the UK’s best “Record Keeping Service’ in 2017 at the Archives and Records Association (UK & Ireland) Excellence Awards. The final decision for this award was made by public vote.

Adrian Gregson, archives manager, said: “It is really good news to have our service recognised by The National Archives once again.

“We’d like to thank our amazing staff who offer such an excellent service and who have worked so hard to ensure we were successful.

“We’d also like to thank our customers who have encouraged and supported us over the years. This is a great morale boost at this difficult time when the public cannot visit the Hive.”

The National Archives said: “We would like particularly to congratulate the following archive services on completing a full cycle of Accreditation returns and retaining their status as Accredited Archive Services in a full assessment after six years.

Although The Hive is currently closed, staff are continuing to work on projects from home and are still answering online enquiries.
