Ticket pledge plea to make two-day Bonham festival a reality

Redditch Editorial 22nd Apr, 2020   0

A ‘PLEDGE to buy’ scheme has been launched by the organisers of this year’s John Bonham’s memorial festival in a bid to underpin the finances of the event.

Ros Sidaway, director of the two-day festival in tribute to the famous son of Redditch who became a rock legend with the band Led Zeppelin, said ticket sales and sponsorship had plummeted in the wake of coronavirus.

The event, which marks the 40th anniversary of John’s death, is on Friday and Saturday, September 25-26.

And although this is still five months away, by which time the country should hopefully be well-clear of Covid-19, the finances need to be put in place sooner rather than later.

“We really need help now,” said Ros.

“Ticket sales have all but dried up, although we’ve had lots of people from America saying they will still be coming over for the festival.

“We’re looking for people to make a pledge to buy tickets so it will give us an indication on whether or not we could sell tickets fast enough between restrictions being lifted and the dates of the gigs.”

In addition all tickets bought are fully refundable in the event of the festival being cancelled.

This year’s John Bonham A Celebration II promises to be a mouthwatering two days of fantastic music.

The main events will take place at the Palace Theatre with winner of the Palace drum competition Michael McCourt opening proceedings on the Friday night.

Plus there will be Bev Bevan’s band Quill, the Climax Blues Band and topping the bill Coda – plus special guests.

Saturday’s line-up is a tightly kept secret although Ros has confirmed Glasgow’s Queen of the Blues Maggie Bell will be appearing.

Tickets for the Friday are £30, and those for Saturday are £40.

However there will also be two stages during the day on the Saturday featuring up and coming musicians, many of them local, performing a wide variety of music.

One stage will be in the covered area of the old market while the second will be a ‘trailer stage’ in the town centre. Both will be free.

All the artists are performing free of charge and all funds raised will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity close to the Bonhams’ heart.

People can pledge to buy by emailing [email protected] and state which evening (Fri 25th and/or Sat 26th Sept) you pledge to buy tickets for and in what quantity. Please ensure you include your name and a contact number.
