IT’S cheers to a bright future at a Redditch watering hole after The Mayfly pub re-opened under new management.
The Studley Road ale house has been save from closure by local businessman Jay Walton who said he couldn’t bear the thought of it shutting up shop.
“It’s been a family local for such a long time and it was about to be boarded up,” he said.
“I had some money available from other businesses I run and I just thought ‘let’s go for it’.”
With help from Punch Taverns he’s breathed new life into the pub and brought in Vicky Barker as manager.
“The Mayfly’s got a massive garden and I’ve had it completely revamped while inside it’s been re-decorated and I’ve put more tellies in,” said Jay, who has a background in hospitality.
And he says he wants to see the pub, which sponsors the Mayfly Tigers football team, back at the heart of the local community.
“This is a family pub, children are welcome, we’ve installed a Playstation and it’s a safe environment,” he said.
