A REDDITCH County Councillor has been named the new chairman of Worcestershire County Council for the new civic year.
Coun Brandon Clayton (Con, Redditch North) is the first from Redditch to serve as chairman since the County Council was re-organised 20 years ago.
Born in Birmingham the 63-year-old has lived with his wife Anita in Redditch for 37 years.
Prior to the last general election Coun Clayton worked for five years as a researcher for the then Redditch MP Karen Lumley.
He was elected to the County Council in 2017 and was previously a councillor at County Hall between 2009 and 2013.
Speaking after his election, Coun Clayton said: “Anne Hingley has done a wonderful job over the last 12 months and it has been a privilege to work with her as her vice-chairman.
“My priority for the next year will be to work hard to bring councils and councillors from across Worcestershire together.
“I am proud to live in Worcestershire and working with all parts of the county. I plan to do everything I can to promote the best of Worcestershire.”
Ombersley County Councillor Peter Tomlinson has been elected as vice chairman for the year ahead.
