TOP saxophonist Julian Smith is to launch a new concert series at ‘The Church on the Green’ in Redditch – St Stephen’s.
A musician with an international reputation, the former Birmingham Conservatoire student hit the headlines in 2009 when he made the final of Britain’s Got Talent.
Since then his eclectic style and diversity has won him legions of fans – and now he’s coming to Redditch for a very special ‘Christmas Chillout’ at The Church on the Green.
Not only that but the sax star, who’s been touring the US and Canada, is donating his services for free with all money raised from the gig going to pay for vital repairs to Redditch’s iconic town centre landmark.
Elaine Whitfield, who has organised the gig for St Stephen’s, said the concert was just the start of a drive to open the church up to the whole community.
“These are exciting times; we are going to have lots of different events that will hopefully appeal to everyone in Redditch while the money raised will help maintain the church,” she said.
Julian Smith is a headlining grabbing act – he’s won over music mogul Simon Cowell and media personality Piers Morgan and has played on stage with his hero American smooth Jazz saxophonist Kenny G, at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Elaine said he readily agreed to the gig because the acoustics in St Stephen’s are so good and because it’s for such a great cause.
“His music is completely diverse and what we want is for people to come along, sit back and enjoy a real Christmas Chillout,” she said.
The gig is on Saturday, December 16, and refreshments – including mince pies – will be available on the night.
Unsurprisingly tickets, priced from £12 to £25 are already selling and they are available from our Redditch Standard offices on Church Green, The Music Shop by car park 4 by the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and The Word Christian Bookshop in St Stephen’s Church.
