SHED owners are being urged by police to make sure they are locking up their valuables to protect them being stolen and stop homes being broken into.

West Mercia Police have issued a list of safety tips and hints including; to fit a good quality closed shackle padlock to the door, fit mesh or net curtains to windows to hide the contents and make sure hinges are secure by using either clutch screws or replacing a couple of the screws with bolts.

Along with registering the contents on websites such as www.immobilise.com and marking all property with a house number, name and postcode making it easily identifiable.

Police stated that larger items such as bikes should be chained together, as it is much harder for a thief to carry a lot of heavy items all at once.

With another tip being to invest in an alarm for added protection.

Making sure your shed is secure and kept in good condition is vital to protect the safety of your home, as tools and equipment that are kept inside may be used to force entry adding to the expense and hassle.
