Top tips on infection control as advisers visit county care homes

STAFF in care homes are to receive vital infection prevention control training as part of the latest phase of Worcestershire County Council’s coronavirus response.

In total six of the authority’s trainers will join NHS colleagues to ensure the homes are fully supported with the correct usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The staff are currently going through their own training from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust which includes information on infection control, using PPE and caring for people who have symptoms of or have tested positive for Covid-19.

It comes amidst criticism levelled at the Government for not acting sooner to tackle the pandemic in care homes.

Each trainer will be allocated eight care or nursing homes, where they will deliver the training.

They will also be the first port of call for any enquiries and will carry out inspections to ensure infection prevention measures are being followed.

Councillor Adrian Hardman, who has responsibility for adult social care at County Hall, said: “This is another example of how we’re working with our NHS partners as we do all we can to keep the county’s most vulnerable people and our staff safe.”

Sarah-Jayne Foster, the learning and development manager for social care and apprenticeships, will be one of the trainers supporting care homes.

She said: “This training will provide vital support for residents and staff.”

The County Council trainers will provide support alongside staff from Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and Herefordshire and Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.
