HEARTBROKEN staff and children at Astwood Smiles Nursery are picking up the pieces after heartless thieves stole their Christmas lights display – and what they couldn’t steal, they smashed.

The lit up display of three reindeer, tree and snowmen had been delighting the youngsters at the Feckenham Road nursery since it went up at the beginning of the month.

However shocked staff couldn’t believe their eyes when they arrived for work on Monday morning (December 14) to find the £700 display destroyed.

“Everything had been well pegged down to prevent theft and because the winds had been so high and they’d pulled the head off one of the reindeer as they tried to steal it,” said Marilyn Harris, who’s daughter Olivia own the nursery.

“We were just so upset – and we want to warn everyone that there are people out there going round and stealing their Christmas displays.”

Nursery manager Alison Byng added: “It really was a beautiful display – we really had gone to town on it to make sure they children have the best possible Christmas experience.”
