Town MP backs plans to restore trains to run every 20 minutes from Redditch

TOWN MP Chris Bloore has joined with Midlands Connect to back plans for the Midlands Rail Hub, which aims to see a ‘massive boost for Redditch’ as over 25 trains a day will be added to the railway line into and out of the town.

The plans will deliver an extra train every hour from Redditch on the Cross City Line, returning the line to a service every 20 minutes.

This means that residents and commuters will see an additional 2.7million extra seats a year for passengers.

Over the last few months, MP’S from across the Midlands have backed the improvements the Midlands Rail Hub will deliver to their constituencies including more frequent trains on the Cross City Line, giving 5million more seats each year, and an associated upgrade of the station at Kings Norton.

When it is delivered in full, the proposals would provide a massive uplift in capacity in the railway network in the Midlands, with up to 300 extra trains into or out of Birmingham each day and many more services each day between our biggest cities in the West and East Midlands.

New analysis has shown that 12,750 new jobs are expected to become available thanks to the Midlands Rail Hub project.

Mr Bloore said: “I’m delighted that the Midlands Rail Hub will make a massive difference to residents and commuters in Redditch. Improving transport links for Redditch is a key priority for me so hearing that we can uplift trains so significantly will be a real step change.

“Over the last few weeks I have been urging the government to fund this project and I’m delighted the government have heard the calls and delivered the cash needed to progress this project.

“The Midlands Rail Hub will transform services for our town and boost our local economy.”

Andrew Clark, Head of Rail at Midlands Connect said: “It was great to have to the support of Chris for the Midlands Rail Hub.

“We are working at pace to finish the Full Business Case and deliver these much-needed upgrades to Redditch.

“Being able to deliver for residents in Redditch would make a massive difference for connections to the town This added to the 2.7 million extra seats a year will deliver a massive boost for Redditch.”
