ALL lanes on the M42 southbound between between junctions 2 (Alvechurch) and 1 (Bromsgrove) in Worcestershire have now reopened.
A collision involving a car and an HGV had closed the road in both directions.
In addition lane three of the northbound carriageway was closed due to damage to the central reservation barrier.
The incident happened shortly after 4.30am today (Friday, December 15).
National Highways Traffic Officers released trapped traffic while emergency services continued to work at the scene.
Recovery of vehicles was arranged, the carriageway was inspected for any further damage and any necessary repairs were carried out before the road reopened.
Southbound traffic was told to follow the solid diamond diversion leaving the M42 at junction 2 on to the A441 southbound, the A448 signposted Bromsgrove and the A38 to Lydiate Ash Interchange where road users can continue their journey on the M5 north or south.
