A MAN who broke into a flat and stole a savings jar while he was subject to a community order for using a bank card taken in another burglary has been jailed.
Paul Andrews pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to the burglary of the flat in Masons Grove, Stratford, and also admitted a theft, fraud and two charges of handling stolen property, selling some of the goods through two Redditch pawn shops.
After hearing that Andrews, from Alcester but of no fixed address, was in breach of a community order, he was jailed for 26 months.
Suzanne Francis prosecuting said that on May 5 a woman left her first floor flat in Masons Grove with her two children at around 11.30am.
That afternoon she received a call telling her it had been broken into, and she returned to find the kitchen window smashed and a demijohn containing about £300 in coins had been taken.
Police found blood on a handle which matched Andrews, who had been given a community order in November for handling stolen bank cards taken in a burglary at a house in Alcester.
Andrews was later arrested after selling a stolen Go Pro camera at Cash Converters in Redditch, added Miss Francis.
Ian Speed, defending, said: “At the time of this offending he had developed a heroin and crack cocaine addiction amounting to £100 a day.”
He added that since being remanded in custody, Andrews had signed onto a drugs course.
