TRAINS to Redditch have been severely delayed this morning after a woman was struck by a train at Barnt Green railway station.
The incident happened at about 6.50am today (Thursday, February 9) and West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed they sent a hazardous response vehicle, one ambulance and a paramedic support officer to the scene.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “We were called to Barnt Green Station at 6.55am this morning after a report that a woman had been struck by a train.
“The ambulance service attended but the woman sadly died at the scene.
“The death is not believed to be suspicious at this time. A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a woman who had been seriously injured following a collision with a train.
“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Early indications suggest the incident was a tragic accident.
“As normal in an incident of this nature, a full investigation will be carried out by British Transport Police to determine exactly what happened.”
The train involved was a Worcester to Birmingham New Street service and delays and cancellations are still taking place throughout the area but disruptions are expected to end by 12pm.
