A WOMAN has been treated for a serious abdominal injury and taken to hospital on blue lights and sirens following a crash between a car and a van this afternoon (Monday, January 16)

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called to the A46 in Drayton, near to Wildmoor Spa, at 12.30pm and sent two ambulances and a paramedic area support officer to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they found a car and van that had both suffered front end damage in the collision.

“The most seriously injured patient was the passenger in the van, a woman believed to be in her 40s.

“She was treated at the scene for a serious abdominal injury and shoulder pain. She was immobilised and given pain relief before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.”

The driver of the van, a man also thought to be in his 40s, was treated for arm, neck and shoulder pain and taken to the same hospital.

The car driver, a woman in her 40s, was uninjured in the incident and she was treated for the effects of shock and discharged at the scene.

The crash between the two vehicles meant that the road was  closed in both directions between the A435 (Stratford Road) and A422 (Alcester Road) near Stratford-Upon-Avon and local diversions were put in place. Road users are still advised to allow extra time for their journeys and may wish to consider alternative routes.
