Tree experts hear of diseases latest

Redditch Editorial 9th May, 2014 Updated: 18th Oct, 2016   0

TREE experts travelled from as far away as Oxford to hear from Government advisors about stopping the spread of dangerous diseases.

The Midlands had been set to miss out on national advice sessions being run, until Redditch Borough Council decided to host an extra event in the Town Hall last Thursday (May 1).

Attended by more than 60 people, the event covered how to prevent, spot and manage diseases such as ash dieback, acute oak decline and chestnut blight.

They were also told about a new campaign – the Woodland Trust’s Observatree – aimed at enabling members of the public to recognise and report tree problems.

Guy Revans, head of environmental services, said: “We are delighted the national agencies accepted our offer to come to Redditch. As a result, all our tree officers and tree surgeons are now armed with the latest information and advice as they go about looking after our woodlands.”
