TRIBUTES have been paid to well-known Alcester resident Peter Edward Pritchard who died on December 28 at the Cherry Trees care home, aged 100.
Peter celebrated his centenary last year with a party for family, friends and well-wishers at the residential home, finishing with an evening trip to his favourite local, the Holly Bush, for a glass of wine.
He received more than 200 cards celebrating this milestone, including one from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Peter was born in Epsom, Surrey, on August 6, 1924, where he spent his formative years. During the Second World War he spent time in India from 1943 to 1946 as a leading aircraftman in the Royal Air Force.
He married his sweetheart Brenda and his job, working for a housing developer, brought them to Alcester. The pair are reputed to have thrown legendary parties.
Since moving to the town in the late 1970s, Peter, with his wife Brenda, were actively involved in many Alcester community organisations.
He is known for being a co-founder of the Alcester Food Festival, involved with the Alcester Lions, chairman of the Alcester Town Hall trust and supporter of other local organisations.
Peter is fondly remembered for being an amusing raconteur, a true gentleman and a much-respected member of the Alcester community.
