Trio of Redditch hopefuls get a first hand look at dealing with dementia

REDDITCH parliamentary hopefuls from Labour, Conservative and the Liberal Democrats popped in to meet and talk with people affected by dementia at the town’s Dementia Cafe.

The aim was to give them the opportunity to share their party’s position and policies on key issues affecting those living with dementia.

Dementia has become an election issue, and staff say it is more vital than ever that candidates for election hear directly and learn from the personal experiences of those living with dementia, and their families, friends and carers.

The Alzheimer’s Society has dementia cafes across the West Midlands providing a safe, supportive enivronment for people with dementia to socialise – the Redditch one is in the Masonic Hall in Easemore Road.

Will Stent from the Alzheimer’s Society said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people affected by dementia and those living with the condition to pose questions to candidates who may end up representing them in Parliament. The cafe also represents a chance for candidates to find out more about the daily lives of people with dementia and the challenges they can face.”
