RESIDENTS are invited to try something new in Redditch this January as the Abbey Stadium host their biggest open day to date.
Instead of focusing on drink dryathlons and ‘New Year, new you’ type resolutions which are hard to maintain, the Abbey Stadium are holding a free open day for everyone on January 14 where visitors can have the opportunity to try a new sport or activity – as part of the ‘Tryanuary’ campaign.
Three new studios will be officially opened on launch day and an array of classes will be on offer for visitors to try for free including GRIT strength*, cardio and Plyo*, Body Jam*, Sh’bam*, Body Balance*, Body Attack, Body Combat and RPM* and Sprint* in the new cycling studio.
January 14 also marks the international launch of Body Pump 100* and Abbey Stadium will be taking part in the global launch of the brand new tracks and routines at 11.45am on the open day.
As well as classes guests of all ages can book a place to swim* for free between 12pm and 1.45pm.
Anyone who fancies a go in the gym, can take part in ‘gym challenges’ which will be raising money for the MS Community Group. The entry fee for the challenges is a donation towards the charity and the winner of each challenge will receive a month’s free full membership for them and a friend.
On the day visitors can also sample a smoothie from Thinkin Coffee, take a tour of the facility, purchase clothing from Step n Pump clothing as well taking advantage of the opportunity to sign up on the day and pay no joining fee.
Younger visitors can also sign up to a six week course to learn how to roller skate from 5pm – 6pm starting on January 14. The course is suitable for ages 11+ and costs £20 including the hire of the skates.
The open day will run from 8am until 3pm, not including rollerskating.
Coun Bill Hartnett, Leader of the Council, said: “This is the biggest open day we’ve had yet and there really is something for everyone to try, no matter what their age. “Whether it’s taking a dip in the pool, trying out a class or sampling a smoothie, January is the perfect time – post Christmas indulgence – to get up, get active and try something new.”
The Abbey Stadium are also running a nomination process to find a local person worthy of cutting the ribbon and officially opening the new studios. Nominations can be made online at http://www.redditchbc.gov.uk/tryanuary
