A YOUNG woman who came off her bicycle this morning in Redditch has been rushed to a major trauma centre after suffering serious injuries.
An ambulance, a responder paramedic and two Midlands Air Ambulances, one with a MERIT trauma doctor on board, attended the scene on Bates Hill at around 11.55am today (Tuesday, March 14)
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived they were told the woman, believed to be in her 20s, was thrown over the handlebars of her bicycle and had landed on the road.
“The woman suffered serious injuries and require advanced trauma care on scene by the team of ambulance staff. The woman was transferred to the land ambulance before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care.”
By around 12.20pm five police cars were on the scene and police and community support officers cordoned off the area from the public, keeping the patient out of view of the public, who crowded the top of the hill as the scene unfolded.
At around 1.04pm, the ambulance sped off with blue lights flashing to take the woman to the QE Hospital in Birmingham and police gradually let people return to their cars parked on the road, but only on the left hand side of the street.
A bicycle could be seen on the grass verge at the edge on the right side of the road.
