Two inches out? That’ll be £150 as Redditch resident stung for parking

A PENSIONER has been hit with a £150 parking fine after leaving his car just two inches outside the bay.

Anthony Brown, of Winyates, was given a £60 fine after he pulled up in Lidl’s car park and left his car for ten minutes. When he returned he found a ‘smiling’ operative from UK Parking Controls Ltd putting a ticket on his windshield and taking pictures of the nearside wheels.

He explained there was a chain of trolleys across the bay which made it impossible for him to park completely inside the white lines.

He refused to pay the fine and it increased to £90. He wrote to the company and stated he would challenge the ticket with the Parking On Private Land Appeals (POPLA) but his argument was rejected and the fine was increased again to £150.

UK Parking Control Ltd is now threatening to take Mr Brown to court over the outstanding payment.

He said: “They are sending out operatives to tour the car parks, taking photographs of any minor misdemeanour for which they can attempt to extort money from unsuspecting motorists.”

UK Parking Controls Ltd had not got back to us by the time we went to press.
