Two new pedestrian crossings for Redditch this summer

Redditch Editorial 21st Jul, 2020   0

WORK to install a pedestrian crossing in Hewell Road, Redditch is due to start in the week beginning Monday, August 10.

It is one of five being installed across Worcestershire in a bid to improve pedestrian safety and give better access to local amenities.

Councillor Alan Amos, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for highways, said: “It’s great that we’re now in a position to get these crossings installed across the county over the next few months.

“We have been made aware by the local communities in each of these areas of the need for new road crossings, to improve safety and access to local services and it’s important that we act on this local knowledge.”

The Hewell Road crossing is being installed in preparation for the new Holyoakes School and will be positioned just off the roundabout with Salters Lane and Pointer’s Way. There will also be some street lighting work in the area from Thursday, August 6.

Both sets of works will require temporary traffic lights and a night closure will take place for four nights as part of the works on Hewell Road.

A second crossing is also planned for Redditch, in Willow Way, Batchley, later in the summer.
