Two Redditch libraries are now 'autism friendly'

Redditch Editorial 3rd Apr, 2017   0

REDDITCH and Woodrow libraries are are now ‘Autism Friendly’.

The move follows a decision by the county’s Libraries and Learning Service to sign up to the Autism Friendly Library (AFL) standard and the initiative will be officially launched across Worcestershire this Sunday (April 2) – World Autism Awareness Day.

Staff have attended autism awareness training, posters are being displayed to let people know the libraries are autism friendly, and managers have identified a quiet, safe place in each library which can be used when a customer has a ‘meltdown’ – a term commonly used to describe sensory overload.

There are also plans to build on the services that are currently offered – with options in discussion including film clubs, readers groups and adult and community learning courses.
