TWO Redditch police officers who helped resuscitate a man in cardiac arrest have this week picked up their certificates to thank them for their lifesaving actions.
Con Caitlin Bean and Seb Britton from the Safer Neighbourhood Team have been honoured by the Royal Humane Society for their actions in October 2024 during an incident on Foxlydiate Crescent in Redditch.
Con Britton said he was on patrol when he came across the patient on the footpath, after he had been removed from his car by members of the public.
He said: “They told me they thought the man was having a heart attack, so I jumped out the car and quickly recognised that the patient wasn’t breathing and was in cardiac arrest.
“I carried out numerous cycles of CPR and was thankfully assisted by an off-duty health care professional.
“I asked for more officers to assist and was soon joined by PC Caitlin Bean who helped with the defib kit and carried out numerous cycles of CPR as well.”
The CPR was successful and a pulse was found on the man in time for ambulance crews to arrive and commence further CPR.
An air ambulance and critical care paramedics arrived to help stabilise the patient who was then taken to hospital to receive further care before making a full recovery.
Con Britton and Bean said: “We were extremely grateful for the assistance given by the local community at the time and for the training provided to us by the force which allowed us to quickly intervene and provide the best possible care in the situation.”
