Ukip vote split between main parties says Redditch candidate Paul Swansborough

“IT looks like the Ukip vote has been split in half,” said their candidate in Redditch Paul Swansborough.

Mr Swansborough, a borough councillor, said the vote in Redditch seemed to reflect the national picture.

He put their poor showing down to the decision not to run a national campaign, failing to field candidates in every seat.

“Because we haven’t run a national campaign people have thought ‘what’s the point?’” he said.

“Having said that we have run a very good campaign here in Redditch especially as in terms of resources we just could not match Labour and the Conservatives.”

He added that he hoped that should the country go to the polls again later this year that Ukip would field a full number of candidates.
